Berhida
In the morning show Derűs napot on Dankó Radio, editor and host Tibor Hajdú introduced listeners to the charming sights of Berhida.
This small town lies in the northeastern part of the Balaton Highlands and along the northern edge of Mezőföld, in the valley of the Séd River, just 9–10 km from Várpalota.
The area was already inhabited during Roman times. According to historical documents, its earliest known owner was the Chapter of Veszprém, dating back to 1082.
Legend has it that King Géza II of the Árpád dynasty lost his royal seal here — rediscovered by a farmer in 1811 and now preserved in the Hungarian National Museum.
One of Berhida’s main attractions is the 13th-century Church of the Holy Cross — a truly rare gem, with only one similar example in all of Europe. Nature lovers will also enjoy the area’s hiking trails and its proximity to Lake Balaton.
🌍 Local Tip (UK/US): If you’re visiting Hungary, Berhida makes a perfect day trip from Veszprém or Lake Balaton — pack comfortable shoes for a scenic walk!
