Tihany

It had long been on our wish list and yesterday we finally got to Tihany: a village on a peninsula of Lake Balaton. Widely hailed as the most beautiful hiking area on Balaton. It did not disappoint us: 12 tough kilometres uphill-downhill with beautiful views, changing landscapes and, to finish, a cosy tourist village with a delicious meal. October is a great month for hiking here: not overly hot (15-19°) and mostly sunny. As expected, it was very quiet at Lake Balaton, but in Tihany not everything was closed yet. So if you don’t like excessive heat and don’t need to swim in Lake Balaton, we can recommend October in Hungary. Although spring/summer should also be beautiful here as Tihany also has vast lavender fields.
